I am a mum of two, a GP, and also run an educational resource showing parents in Sheffield and around the country about the importance of carrying children from birth, in arms or in a sling.
- Where are you from?
I grew up in South Africa and then in the South of the UK.
- How did you end up in Sheffield?
My best friend comes from Doncaster and lived in Sheffield for a few years after we finished medical school; I came to visit her one Christmas when it had snowed and she took me out to Mam Tor. I loved the city and its attitude and applied for medical jobs here ten years ago, and have been here ever since!
- What’s your brand?
I run the Sheffield Sling Surgery and Library; and the online retail arm Sling Spot.
- What do we need to know about your brand?
The Surgery is a teaching, supporting and borrowing service for parents to find out more about carrying their baby in various safe and comfortable slings – and toddlers and preschoolers too, as little legs get tired of walking and life has to carry on! I do a lot of educating and training further afield as well. The Sling Spot is the retail side of things, selling beautiful and comfortable slings and accessories for parents.

- What’s your favourite thing to do as a family in Sheffield?
Be outside, eat out, laugh and be silly.
- Top parenting tip?
Keep your children close and be responsive – children need to be carried and they thrive when they are carried.
