GUEST SPEAKER // Cupola Gallery

After a nice ‘relaxing’ half term break, we are back on Friday and excited to welcome mum of two Karen Sherwood as our guest speaker. Karen is the founder, owner and director of Cupola Contemporary Art. Cupola remains one of the most respected contemporary galleries for the sale and exhibition of fine art & fine craft in the north of England – wow!

Self described as ‘slightly mad passionate advocate of the arts’, Karen founded the gallery in 1991 and since then it has gone from strength to strength. You only have to speak to Karen for five minutes to understand why! Enthusiastic and ever the professional, a natter with Karen is always insightful and interesting. We can’t wait to hear all about her journey growing the gallery (and how she managed it with two young children!).

If you haven’t been to Cupola, we would strongly recommend a visit. With free chocolate cake every Saturday and children (and babies) welcome, who can resist? Top tip: their legendary ‘Under the Bed’ sales are a great way to pick up a bargain!

As if running a gallery and looking after two children wasn’t challenge enough, this year Karen is organising the first ever Hillsborough Arts Festival – #HillsFest2016. This will be an ambitious 2 day arts & music festival in Hillsborough park in July, celebrating arts and industry in Sheffield. There are many ways YOU can get involved with helping to organise and deliver this festival, which Karen will tell us all about during her talk.
