EVENING EVENT // Mama Social X Laundry // Mums’ Night In

The upturn in the weather and the advent of Summer vibes is the perfect time to turn our attentions to our ‘Mums’ Night In’. Mama Social has teamed up with award winning Sheffield hairdressers, Laundry, to bring you an evening of indulgence and relaxation focussing on your own well being.

Laundry is about much more than just cutting and colouring hair; It’s is all about making you look and feel brilliant. They take great pride in their approach to finding out how you want to look and feel. The media spotlight is firmly honed on specialists who are worth their weight in gold when it comes to understanding and delivering supreme results, which is what Laundry is known for.

Laundry are inspired by the time you spend in front of the mirror as you get your hair cut, coloured and styled, and what our face, body and soul tells us on closer inspection. Ultimately we all want to look and feel the best we can with our hectic lifestyles and pressures increasing from all angles. During our Mums’ Night In we will be focusing on wellness, well-being and vitality to improve your glow when you look in that mirror!

We will be hearing from Sheffield wellness specialist Rachael Hibberd.  Rachael is the founder and creative behind Instinctive Health.  A Kelham Island based Yoga Lifestyle Centre, offering a wide range of yoga classes, workshops, massage treatments and Ayurvedic therapies.

A little over six years ago Rachael left a successful career in nursing with a desire to find a happier and more creative life and a greater sense of well-being.  Using the tools of massage, reflexology, yoga and the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda, Rachael has learnt that feeling beautiful is very different from looking beautiful.

Rachael will be hosting the first part of our ‘Night in’ in the newly opened Laundry Juice and Coffee Bar, after a short break we will move into the award winning Salon, where we will also be joined by Laundry’s head technician Billie-Mo Tredgett for a short chat about hair health and happiness. Billie is a leader in her field and champions a new generation approach when it comes to colouring and improving hair health.

EVENING EVENT // Craft Social at The Chimney House

File 16-04-2016 13 53 58

Thursday the 14th May saw us hosting our very first ‘Craft Social’. We spent the evening in the serene surroundings of The Chimney House making beautiful things from our own hand crafted pom poms.

Beth Pegler lead the session and provided us with the inspiration by bringing some of her own hand made garlands, wall hangings and headbands (which are available to buy in her shop).
It was lovely to meet up with some like minded mamas and chat over a glass (or three) of fizz. Getting to know each other, realising we a had lots in common, and sharing some hilarious anecdotes!
The gorgeous wool was generously supplied by Rowan wool and with Beth’s guidance resulted in some fabulous creations.
The headbands were particularly popular; it was a wonderful sight seeing all the mamas stumbling their way back across the cobbles with smiles on their faces and pom pom crowns atop their heads!
Massive thanks to everyone who came down and left the little ones at home, we know it can be hard!  Special thanks also to Beth for being our craft person extraordinaire we’re looking forward to working together again soon to bring you Mamas more Craft Socials.
If you’d like to come down to one of our evening meet ups then keep your eyes on our social media channels. Details of our May evening event to follow…..

EVENING MEET // Lucy Sheridan @ Daisy’s Bar 17/03/16 @ 20:00

lucy sheridan

Mama Social is proud to announce our first evening event… We invite you to join us and Lucy Sherdan for a cocktail in the gorgeous Daisy’s Bar (above The Great Gatsby – Division Street).

About Lucy

Lucy Sheridan AKA The UK’s first and only Comparison Coach, is on a mission to get Gen Y over the ‘compare & despair’ of social media and be truly happy off and online. She has been featured in Grazia, Stella Magazine and the Daily Mail as part of her #comparisonfree campaign and continues to deliver that message via one on one coaching, workshops and speaking gigs. She is also co-creator of #HigherSelfie the spiritual lifestyle brand.

Nobody’s Tribute Act: From compare & despair to #comparisonfree

“Comparison is the thief of Joy” – Theodore Roosevelt

In this inescapably digital age, the power couple of technology and social media have meant our devices are extensions of us.

We take them to the toilet, the birthing suite and (some of us!) even capture after sex selfies. Although at first thought extreme, these are trends nonetheless and when it comes to social media it appears it is all up for grabs!

This has had an interesting influence on how we perceive ourselves and each other as it can often feel that according to social media, everyone else has this thing called life figured out apart from us and their perfect lives fill our feeds and lead us to compare and despair.

Other people’s families, jobs, children, luxury handbags, grades, holidays, promotions, blogs and properties are all there as comparison content for us to consider and sometimes obsess over.

If we’re not careful, our happiness and success will boil down to an arbitrary check list ticking off those things whether we feel aligned with them or not.

In many ways we can be in danger of becoming someone else’s tribute act, with our goals and dreams a hodge-podge of other’s lives, and guess work of what we think we ‘should’ be doing at a certain life stage.

So to quote Dr Dre “HOLD UP”!

In this ‘does what it says on the tin’ session we’ll be:

  • Exploring and unpicking the digital overspill into our offline lives
  • Understanding how and why we compare ourselves to other people, without judgment or assumption
  • Gaining the insight that comparison can generate for you via self study, interactive exercises – and using those to set your goals and life vision, uniquely and authentically aligned with you
  • Dispelling the myth of the ‘perfect life’ created by social media
  • Discovering how to let the REAL you shine in every area of your life on your own terms
  • Putting down our phones and looking within to find the answers that will move you forward, get brave and gain the confidence to deliver for yourself.
  • Having a giggle at Lucy’s own cringey comparison anecdotes and the lessons learned from these
